About Children's Services
We want to make Ealing a great place for every child and young person to grow up. To achieve this, our teams across the borough work closely with police, health, education professionals and partner agencies. We have also made significant progress implementing the Every Child Matters Agenda. Our most recent assessment from OFSTED rated us as Good in 4 of the 5 outcomes, Outstanding in making a Positive Contribution and in our capacity to improve. This reflects our innovative approach and our commitment to ensuring that children and young people are at the heart of all our service developments.
To maintain our commitment to excellence and continue our good progress, it’s essential that we attract the right social care leaders and managers for now and the future. But it’s more than just about recruiting people with a certain level of experience. A shared passion for delivering the highest standards and achieving positive outcomes is equally important. To support your continued development, we work in partnership with the West London Alliance Partnership to provide a social work management skills programme, access to tailored action learning sets and the opportunity to attend seminars and individual mentoring sessions.
In addition to our social care provision, we also have an excellent network of 22 modern Children’s Centres, a high performing Youth Offending Service, Youth and Connexions service and an innovative early intervention SAFE service. Our core social care teams are located in the following areas:
Referral and Assessment Teams – Acton and Greenford
These teams undertake initial and comprehensive assessments of children and families in need and any initial safeguarding action required, prior to cases being passed through to the longer term teams, referred elsewhere or closed. They have a key role in formulating initial plans and are fast moving, busy teams.
Children In Need Teams - Acton, Greenford and Northolt
Working with families and children subject to child protection plans and children with complex needs, the key emphasis is on supporting children and families within the safeguarding framework and safeguarding children living in the community. Where there is no option, social workers take court action to make alternative plans for the children.
Looked After Children Teams - Acton and Greenford
These teams work with children who are looked after in foster and residential care and undertake court work to prepare permanent plans for children and young people up to the age of 16. They have a strong focus on improving children’s life chances through education and developing their varied talents and abilities, as well as achieving reunification with their families wherever possible.
Leaving Care Team - Greenford
A borough-wide service that works to prepare looked after young people, aged 16 – 21 years, for independent living and has a strong focus on improving their life chances and helping them achieve their ambitions through education, training and employment support.
Children with Disability Specialist Service - ESCAN (Ealing service for children with additional needs) – Carmelita House, Central Ealing
This borough-wide specialist team works alongside health and special education needs colleagues to provide a one stop shop for families.
Fostering and Adoption Team – Central Ealing
The team recruits and supports short-term and permanent foster carers and adoptive parents.
